Great Minds in Quantum Technology Sparkled in Hefei: 2023 International Conference on Emerging Quantum Technology Held

Lasting from September 17th to 22nd, the 2023 International Conference on Emerging Quantum Technology (ICEQT2023)successfully came to an end. The conference is held by the Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Hefei, with over 600 established scholars in quantum technology from all over the world attending.

Professor LUO Yi from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) hosted the opening ceremony, with Professor PAN Jianwei, vice-principal of USTC addressing the meeting. In PAN’s speech, he introduced the latest progress in quantum technology of China and called for a global cooperation network to benefit mankind by developing quantum technology with combined effort.

The conference included realms of quantum physics, quantum communication, quantum optics, and others. Jörg Schmiedmayer, Artur Ekert, LU Zhengtian, and Cheng Chin were invited to give speeches. The conference also served as the awarding ceremony of the Micius Quantum Prize. the winners, Hidetoshi Katori, Jun Ye, Yasunobu Nakamura, and Carlton Caves, also delivered reports, respectively. Moreover, there were another 46 experts making reports and over 150 papers exhibited in wall newspapers.

The conference presented the leading-edge progress in quantum technology and promoted international academic exchange, which raised China’s international influence in quantum science.

As a cutting-edge research field, quantum science was receiving increasing attention, with the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics commending progress in quantum science.

The ICEQT was first held in Hefei, in 2019, aiming at creating a platform for international discussion and exchange in quantum science. The conference is expected to take place every two years, with the next ICEQT to be held in 2025.
