    • The Closing Ceremony for FPISC

    • [2013-07-17]
    • The closing ceremony for FPISC or the Future Physicist International Summer Camp was held at 9:00am On July 14th, 2013, marking a formal curtain call for this two-week program. Hosted by Prof. YUAN Juanhua, the chief for this camp, attendees displayed their representation in turn which featured in their discoveries and thoughts after one-week study in labs under the help from USTC professors and students.

First of all, Prof. Yuan expressed his gratitude to the campers for their support, collaboration and understanding since there must have been some shortcoming in the camp, the very first one organized by Physics School. Also on behalf of the department, he voiced the sincere hope that they could feed back by email afterwards concerning how to perfect this activity in terms of the form, timing and content.

Then, attendees made their debut one after another to share what they have learned during the camp. The topics were quite divided and various, ranging from Quantum Dots to Shor’s algorithm, from Evaporation of Black Holes to Extra Dimensions, from Factorizing to Plasma Physics, and so on. As to the form, they either established a small group engaging peers from other universities or countries or performed a solo show. Meanwhile, they did not forget to reveal the fruits they possessed via those unique lectures like Chinese and calligraphy. For example, one of them started the presentation by saying ‘Nihao’ or ‘Hello’, and the other ended up with two Chinese characters ‘Xiexie’ in place of ‘Thank you’. No matter what topics or form they adopted, all the audiences were merely astonished and fascinated by the profound depth of their report finalized within several days and the remarkable assurance diffused from their speech and gesture.

To sum up, Prof. WANG Guanzhong said that he was very happy to see the campers’ progress and he himself learned a lot from their reports. However, he felt regretful for the disagreeable weather in their travel to Yellow Mountain and hoped that they could come back again in future. Again he spoke of the tiny request that they could comment on this camp.

It is always too early to say farewell. Many of them owned their enormous appreciation for all the arrangements USTC conducted before and during the camp which greatly exceeded their expectations and inquired whether they could apply for it next year. In the mean time, they also mentioned they would recommend their friends and classmates for participation subsequently because the camp has really achieved its target ---‘providing an exceptional opportunity to combine high-quality learning with an unforgettable summer trip’.
