    • Physicist Alexandre Rozanov and Electronics Engineer Patrick Pangaud of the Center for Particle Physics of Marseilles (CPPM) were invited by Prof. Zhengguo Zhao and Prof. Qi An to visit the Collaborative Innovation Center for Particles and Interactions and State Key Laboratory of Particle Detection and Electronics during April 11 to 12, accompanying by Prof. Zheng Wang of the Institute of High Energy Physics.

Prof. Rozanov’s group played a key role in the construction of the pixel detector for ATLAS experiment of the Large Hadron Collider located at CERN. The pixel detector is a key element for ATLAS and extremely complex on one hand because of the large number of channels (80 million) component, on the other hand because of the hostile environment that will prevail at the LHC. It requires the state-of-art particle detection and electronics technology. During their visit, Prof. Rozanov and Prof. Pangaud exchanged the ideas on the related technologies with the faculties and students of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Particles and Interactions and the State Key Laboratory of Particle Detection and Electronics. They also discussed the exchange program between CPPM and USTC, as well as the possible cooperation on the upgrade of the pixel detector for ATLAS and the developments of ASIC techniques.

At Thursday, April 11, afternoon 3 p.m., Prof. Rozanov gave a seminar, titled “Present and future of pixel detector of LHC”, in the Department of Modern Physics. He introduced the recent progress and prospective on the pixel detector at LHC. Prof. Pangaud also gave a seminar, titled “Recent technology for pixel detector and ASIC development”, and introduced the development on the readout of the pixel detector – the ASIC technique.

On Friday, April 12, Prof. Rozanov, Prof. Pangaud and Prof. Wang visit the laboratories of Collaborative Innovation Center for Particles and Interactions and the State Key Laboratory of Particle Detection and Electronics.
