Rong Yu, born in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province in 1987, received his Ph.D. from the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2016. From September 2016 to September 2017, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Computational Cosmology Group at the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From October 2017 to March 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Complex Stellar Systems Research Group at the Department of Astrophysics, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, under CAS-CONICYT and FONDECYT Fellowships. In March 2022, he joined the Department of Astronomy of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) as a specially appointed researcher.
His primary research focuses on galaxy formation and evolution, particularly studying the properties and formation mechanisms of special galaxy groups such as ultra-diffuse galaxies, dark matter-deficient galaxies, and failed L* galaxies, using multi-wavelength observational data and numerical simulations. Other research interests include galaxy dynamics, dark matter, and the large-scale structure of the universe. He has led several ground-based telescope observation projects, such as VLT/MUSE and APEX, and has served as a reviewer for leading international astrophysics journals like ApJ and MNRAS. He is currently a member of the NGFS/NGFS-IR international collaboration survey project group.
