Wan Yong obtained his Ph.D. in 2014 from the University of Hanover, Germany, and the National Metrology Institute of Germany (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB), with a research focus on precision measurements with trapped ions. From 2014 to 2019, he conducted postdoctoral research in ion trap quantum computing with the Ion Storage Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA.

In recent years, his major academic achievements include:

· Hybrid ion logic gates

· Non-destructive state detection of molecular ions

· High-fidelity universal logic gate set for beryllium ions

· Deterministic quantum teleportation gate operation in trapped ion processors

He has published more than 10 papers in international academic journals such as:

· Science (1 paper)

· Nature (2 papers)

· Nature Communications (1 paper)

· Physical Review X (1 paper)

· Physical Review Letters (4 papers)

· Advanced Quantum Technologies (1 paper)

In May 2021, he joined the Division of Quantum Physics and Quantum Information at USTC. His main research directions include:

· Trapping and manipulation of single ions and single photons

· Information transfer between single ions and single photons

· Ion trap quantum repeaters and long-distance quantum information transmission technologies

His related work has been selected for the Physics World Breakthrough of the Year by the Institute of Physics (IOP) in 2016 and the Gold Medal Award by the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2020.
