The First China-Germany solid state quantum information bilateral symposium jointly held by University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Würzburg University was successfully held in Würzburg, Germany, from Sep. 16 to Sep. 21. President of Würzburg University, Prof. Alfred Forche and assistant principle of USTC, Prof. PAN Jianwei made speeches on the opening ceremony. They both talked about the strategic developing direction of solid state quantum information processing and promised to further enhance the cooperation in the field between China and Germany.
On the meeting, more than thirty famous professors in solid state quantum information processing, like director of Max-Planck-Insitut fu¨r Quantenoptik, Garching, Prof. Gerhard Rempe, were invited to make speech. The attendants carried out heated discussion focusing on the new challenges in the field of solid state quantum information processing and developing of practical quantum devices.
Attendants of the meeting also were provided with opportunity to visit the Superclean laboratory of Wurzburg Technical Institute of Physics. The laboratory showed the first-level process line of semiconductor, which greatly impressed and inspired the many Chinese universities and institutes having their Micro-Nano Centres in construction. Meanwhile, principle of the laboratory, Dr. Höfling accepted the invitation to work as a visiting professor of USTC, expressed his willingness to give guidance to the developing of Micro-Nano Center in the university.
The meeting provided a good platform for scientists from China and Germany to mutually know and communicate with each other, promoting their cooperation in basic theory, crafts samples, and optical operation. The second China-Germany solid state quantum information bilateral symposium will be held in 2015 in China.
