Five Alumni of USTC Elected as Fellows of AAAS

In Nov 30, the AAAS (the American Association for the Advancement of Science) announced on Science 701 new members as Fellows of AAAS for their contributions to science and technology, among whom CHEN Linzhao, LUO Kunxin, ZHUANG Xiaowei, LI Chaojun , and FENG Xinhua, are five alumni of USTC. They have made distinguished accomplishments in the field of Medical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Physics and Chemistry.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science, "Triple A-S" (AAAS), is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association. In addition to organizing membership activities, AAAS publishes the journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports, and spearheads programs that raise the bar of understanding for science worldwide.

Prof. CHENG Linzhao got B.S. in Molecular Biology from University of Science and Technology of China and earned PhD. of Molecular Biology and Genetics from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Then he finished the postdoctoral research at ABL-Basic Research Program, NCI-Frederick Cancer Research & Development Center. Dr. Cheng serves as the Associate Director for Basic Research in the Hematology Division. Dr. Linzhao Cheng is a founding member of Stem Cell Program in the Johns Hopkins Institute for Cell Engineering (ICE). He is also a faculty member of the Graduate Training Programs in Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Human Genetics and Molecular Biology and Immunology, and several postdoctoral fellow training programs.
Prof. LUO Kunxin received B.S. in Molecular Biology University of Science and Technology of China in 1986. She got Ph.D degree from University of California at San Diego in 1992. Now she is a Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology of University of California, Berkeley. And she is a Faculty Scientist in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory of Division of Life Sciences.
Prof. Feng Xinhua finished his Ph.D. study in University of Maryland at College Park. He worked as postdoc in University of California at San Francisco. He got the Research Achievement Award from the W.M. Keck Foundation in 2002 and became American Cancer Society Research Scholar from 2003 to 2007. At the same time he was a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Scholar from 2003 to 2008. Now he is a Professor of Departments of Molecular & Cellular Biology and Surgery of Baylaor College of Medicine.
In 1987, Prof. ZUANG Xiaowei entered the School for the Gifted Young of USTC and then earned PhD in physics from UC Berkeley in 1997. And she got her postdoc in Stanford University in 2001.ZHUANG Xiaowei is now investigator of Howard Hughes Medical Institute and professor of chemistry and chemical biology and of physics of Harvard University. ZHUANG has been elected as a member of US National Academy of Sciences.
Prof. LI Chaojun got his M.S. from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 and Ph.D. from McGill University in 1992. He worked as NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow in Stanford University from 1992 to 1994. A fter that he was Visiting Faculty in UC Berkeley 2002 and professor in Tulane University from 1994 to 2003.Now he is a professor of McGill University and Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Green/Organic Chemistry.
