Delegation from University of Edinburgh visited USTC on 11th November. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the USTC authorities and a cooperation framework agreement between the two sides was signed in the conversation.
Vice President of USTC, CHEN Chusheng had a meeting with the delegation, on which he introduced the school history, development goals, training characteristics, and recent research highlights of USTC.
Prof. Stephen Hillier, vice-principal of University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh for short), introduced Edinburgh about its faculties, education and research achievements and advantage disciplines, especially about its international development strategy.
After that, Vice President CHEN Chusheng and Prof. Hillier signed the memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation between USTC and University of Edinburgh.
The delegation was led by Prof. Stephen Hillier, vice-principal of University of Edinburgh and Dr. Yang Nini, director of Chinese affairs.
Prof. SHI Qinghua and Prof. SUN Fei from School of Life Sciences also involved in the reception.
As one of the six oldest and largest universities in Britain, University of Edinburgh was established in 1583. There are about 3000 teaching and research staffs who engage in three main colleges—college of humanity and social science, college of science and engineering, and college of veterinary. Edinburgh ranked 20th around the world on the 2011-2012 QS University Rankings and 6th in Europe and 5th in Britain. Today, Edinburgh is one of the largest universities in the world, and it owns a total number of 17,000 students, 16% of whom are international students coming from more than 100 countries around the world. Edinburgh cultivated 9 Nobel Prize winners all together and the Clone Dolly is one of its most famous research findings.
