Special Exhibition of Tsien Hsue-shen and USTC Opens

  2011 is the centenary of QIAN Xuesen (Tsien Hsue-shen)’s birth. QIAN is known as China's "father of space technology" and "king of rocket", and received an achievement medal for the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" project. Also QIAN is one of the USTC founder and the first Head of the Department of Modern Mechanics for 20 years.

  On Sep 17, Special Exhibition of Tsien Hsue-shen and USTC, with the theme "Combination of Science and Technology and Education Development and Innovation" opened.

  The special exhibition was held by the Museum, School of Engineer, and Archives of USTC. It contains 6 parts and uses practicalities and precious photos to tell QIAN' s decades practice in founding USTC and creating Department of Modern Physics, show his educational theory and confront the "QIAN Xuesen' s Question" from the unique perspective of USTC.  

  From April, USTC has launch a series of activities to memorize QIAN, such as held the QIAN' s Science and Education Innovative Ideas Forum, and invited CAS Academicians ZHENG Zhemin, TONG Bingang etc to give lectures, and so on.

  QIAN Xuesen questioned Chinese education system, "Why do Chinese universities always fail to nurture outstanding talents?" Such is known as "QIAN Xuesen' s question" now.
