PING Yuan, an alumna of Modern Physics department of USTC, won the 2011 Katherine E. Weimer Prize of American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics (APS-DPP) for her pioneering experiments to explore the interaction of high-intensity laser light with matter. The Award Ceremony will be held at the annual meeting of plasma physics in November.
The Katherine E. Weimer Prize was established in 2001 for outstanding female researchers who have been working in the field of plasma science for not more than 10 years. The prize is awarded every three years.
PING Yuan is a 1990 USTC alumna. In 1996 She obtained her Master degree in plasma physics of Modern Physics department in the School of Physical Sciences, USTC, and pursued her Ph.D. degree at the Princeton University. In 2003 she joined Lawrence National Laboratory (LLNL) as an outstanding E.O. Lawrence postdoctoral, and became a full-time faculty since 2006.
