Great breakthrough in quantum computing
This is the result of the collaboration between Prof. Du Jiangfeng research group from USTC and Prof. Liu Renbao from CUHK. They have successfully used electron spin resonance (ESR) to achieve optimal dynamical decoupling through solid-state experiments for the first time the international community. This greatly improved the coherence time of electronic spin, and effectively preserved electron spin coherence in solids. This result was published in Nature issued on Oct 29, and“News and Views” of Nature has also published a article which pointed out that “These achievements are vital to pushing the performance of real, physical systems closer to that required for practical quantum computing.”This achievement has also been selected to 2009 top 10 achievements in scientific and technological progress of Chinese universities.
Silicon Purification by a New Type of Solar Furnace
Prof. Chen Yingtian from USTC, CAS Institute of Theoretical Physics has successfully developed the world's first silicon purification by a new type of solar furnace. Chinese Physics Letter 2009,vol 26(7) published the paper entitled"Silicon Purification by a New Type of Solar Furnace"by Chen Yingtian as the first author and Department of Astronomy and Applied Physics,USTC as the first affliction. This is a major innovation in the field of photovoltaic generation technology , making modern silicon purification become a reality.
The annual scientific and technological progress of China and the world's top ten news activity is co-sponsored by General Office of the Academic Divisions of the CAS, the General Office of the Academic Divisions of the CAE and the Science Times, and so far it has been successfully held for 16 times.
